I found a free source for buildings and parts for sci-fi models. The vacuformed packing material used on batteries, toys, inside boxes of phones, and well anything. I hope that I am making sense.
I have never done it yet, but I collect what I think would look good. I bought a Tracfone, and the vacuform blister package, looks like it could be made into a spaceship.
Just some thoughs. I even have my brother keeping pieces for me. What looks good I keep, the rest in the garbage. Also, if it was to get, say crushed, you would not have lost money.
I will take some photos. I also look around dumpsters. When you see anything plastic, think " What spaceship part ,building,or such, could I build out of this." Then you won't look at garbage the same again.
Here are some photos, of two pieces I have, nearby.
P1 shows two views of the piece, on how it looks upside down. It reminds me of buildings. I could take it, add more parts, and make a city in the clouds, like TOS "The Cloud Miners". Or an underwater base, or base on asteroid. You get the idea. The piece used to hold a cellphone.
P2,I don't know what was in it, but after I primed it, it looks like it could be a landing pad for shuttles. Put a cover on it, add lights, and paint it and decals. Something like Space:1999.
Just two packing items, that cost nothing to get.It would have been in the trash. So look around, and use your imagination.
Hey,4MM! Can you make your own decals on you printer, or have you tried? If so I can post for free, the graghics I did for the Mayflower. Just print it, and put on. Intrested? Anyone?
It does a good job. But they say to print at normal. And the printer does make a difference. I used Epson, and it looked real good, now I am using Lexmark, and I am not to thrilled with it.
I say give it a try. Buy the starter kit, that has white and clear sheets, and the overcoat spray. I like it. Never used the software that came with it, I should, just to see what it can do.
I loaded up the software and all it does is give you a few racing stripes, Helps nothing with adding the detail or the setup of the paper. Don't waste your time.
I have two printers here; I have a HP and a Epson. I know the Epson gives more abilities to make different detail, but the HP seems to be a bit easier to use, and doesn't look half bad when it is done.
