I though I would start the thread on the model, since I will be finished by this weekend. I made a mistake and said 4MM and Tholian model. I bought the model from Beeblebrox, last month. Really nice detailed 1/1000 scale model. I have been thinking about buying it for months, but when 4MM started his model, I thought it was time.
Last night I had to make new decals. I was going to use 1/2500 letters I bought from PNT, but they were too big. So now I need to put them on, and a few small parts to finish. Then the photos.
You know I didn't fully realize until just the other day that you are building it as the SS Mayflower. I'm honored man. Truly. I now await the pics... No pressure though. No, really.
Oops...I read the other DY-100/Mayflower posting first (I just asked if there was a kit). Okay...so, there IS a kit of the DY-100...where can one buy one, state-side?
All of the decals, I made. I took 4MM ortho view of the side, and reduced the image, to same size as model. Then I zoomed up image to design decals to look like view. I use Testor's Decal System to make my decals.
The panel lines on the pods are decals, also. If I was going to make the Botany Bay, then all I would have done is paint it. But after seeing 4MM excellent work, I just had to do it.
The model at 4 1/4 inches, was rough to put decals on, but it was worth it. I hate to tell you, but this is a one of a kind piece. How else can I get rich, when I retire?
Like it? I love it. Doing those decal must have been a bear. And you have inspired me in turn. I hereby declare my intent to build a 1/350th version. It may take me the rest of my life to do it and to tell the truth you'll probably be long since retired when I do but that's my intent. And who knows, maybe by then there will be a 1/350 Enterprise (no bloody A, B, C, or D) to go with it.
The Eagle! Of all the kits I had as a kid this was the one I was most proud of. It was huge (as I recall), made the trek all the way from England just to be destroyed shortly after unpacking
