Akira Class

I am building a Few models for a friend of mine, and here is one of them

The Akira Class.

I still think it is an Upside down NX-01, but what the hey!

This kit is made by Starcrafts and is got a lot of nice detail.  By the picture below, I just gave it the first Sanding and washed her off with Comet Cleanser to get rid of any Release Agents it may have on it.

I already noticed that it has a few problems with a couple of spots were the resin didn’t settle into the mold right.  But they are minor. Plus the Warp nacelles are a little off, Hence the reason why I was asking in the other area about bending resin.

I will post as I go.

Well, I started the base color of the ship.  I gave her a light gray color and used a basic Acrylic paint for the base coat.  As you can see by the underside picture, I was starting to add some paneling with a Darker gray, but I do not like the way it comes out using brush.  I would like to do this by Airbrush, but was wondering if anyone knows where I can get that Blue Tape that is small and thin.  That way I don't have to cut like crazy on regular masking tape in order to do these panel lines?

I know about the tape, I have a roll, I bought mine mail order years ago. Have you checked Auto Parts store? I saw a wider roll of blue at Wal-Mart in the paint dept., but never used it.

On the model, I like the colors. If I was painting the aztec pattern, I would be useing a brush. I have not used an airbrush enough for that.

Well, in the movie pictures of the ships, they are not really aztek patterns.  They are more like different colored panels.  Which is better for the modeler because it isn't as hard to do.

I was hoping the brushed kind would blend better, that way I wouldn't have to do all the masking, But alas, I was wrong once again!

Tholian;

You're correct; the NX-01 IS a modified Akira-class (But Paranoid Pictures will NEVER admit it!). Berman & Braga couldn't decide on anything else as a prototype for a Warp 5 ship, and time to production was running OUT, so the model shop pulled an Akira, dropped the transwarp nacelles for a pair of customized Constitution-class cigar tubes, and

HISTORY IS MADE!!!

Oh well.

At least it doesn't look TOO bad, either as an Akira, or as the NX-01.

Kit work looks great, so far.

I always thought they should have used the Duedulus class like they kind of use in Star Trek Lore.  But that may be a ship for in between the NX and the Constitution Class.

Oh well, what are you going to do.

Both ships look good, but NX-01 was SO out of place in the show. Any more work on the model?
