I've got two physical builds planned for the beginning of 2006. I spent this weekend finishing up my wiring work on my Fortress of Solitude. The wall switches now actualy turn things on and off AND the outside floodlights are up. All circuits are in and wired to the panel!!! So just need to spend some time cleaning and organizing my wood working tools (and make room for the shiny new panel saw that jolly olde St. Nick might bring me). In the next few weeks as things get organized I'm going to buld a paint booth (with some old computer fans I've got around here) and setup some "helping hands" for small or cumbersome parts.
So wish me luck on the first builds in over 20 years. One is a kit and the other will be a scratch build. I'm even trying to develop a detailing procedure I've not seen anyone else attempt. I'm sure people have and I've just not seen it but, if successful, I think it will create a nice sense of scale for the kit. So, more details as things progress. Stay tuned...
The Fortress of Solitude, it has been a LONG time since I read an update. Glad you getting it together. I do wish you luck! It will be good to see the surprises coming.
It has actually been functional since the last time I posted about it. However before the interior lights we're rigged into one of the wall circuits using a complex system of cords and mirrors. And you turned it on and off using the breaker or the main cutoff. It's a fine Fortress indeed.
Thanks for the well wishes, and I might just have something to show for the scratch build by mid November if all goes well.
I had a wonderful weekend putting up my new shed on Sunday.
Went to Sam's club and looked at the Shed they had there. It looked real nice and it is one of those Plastic ones. Never will rot. Well, I hope it won't at least.
SO I have my son go back for my Truck, I purchase it, and when I go to receiving to get it, I find it won't fit in my truck. So I had to take the Cap off the truck and leave it there and take the shed home. About a 20 min drive to and then another 20 mins back, I finally go and get my cap and place it on. But now receiving is closed and the 9/16 wrench they let me barrow is now locked up. so I had to go slow to the Wal-Mart parking lot and then go in and grab another set of wrenches.
I get the cap on and head back home.
I emptied the old shed, and then preceded to beat the crap out of it in order to dismantle it.
Finally I had it all down, and had to pull up the entire block and re-arrange it so it was straight and the new shed was in a good area.
Now I am ready to build the new shed and what happens, it starts to rain. So about an hour of rain, I get back to building it up and now the inside is all wet.
But I have it up though. I will have to send a pic when I get the chance. Raining out right now and don't want to ruin my camera.
Tom, you just have all the luck. No wonder their is none for me.
In an OT, I got my order of decals from Thomas today. I was also a PNT Beta Tester for the Warp Nacelle Grills decals for the AMT refit. They are real beauties. Fit perfect.
That must be cool, I would love to see his shop. And get some pointers. I usually have a hard time reading about a skill and learning, then when I actually get to watch and see it done. I seem to do better that way, and that is what the club did to help me out. Got to learn skills by watching.
That was quite an ordeal to get your new shop! Congratulation. I know exactly which one you are talking about becuase my wife has been looking at one since the summer. When you get a chance let's see it -- and I can't believe I actually said that because I know what will happen :)
