Baton Rouge class
Permalink

I thought I'd share a picture of my last completed model. This is my USS Republic,Baton Rouge class cruiser. This model depicts a young Ensign James T. Kirks first deep space assignment. This was supposed to debute as a kit for sale at Wonderfest 2005 but because of delays with decals it wasn't ready in time. I rushed this build a little to have it ready to promote that debute. The next one will be a bit nicer.

Good to see it again, just like the book.

Does the ship go with a Book?

So I guess you are going to make this a Kit for sale.  Nice!

The ship is from my favorite Star Trek of all time.

Check it out --> http://www.stguardian.to/mixed/spacechron/index.html

I'm hoping it will be offered as a kit. Starship Modeler is supposed to be releasing it but they keep postponing it's release. It was supposed to be on the market last May.

Is that entirely scratchbuilt or did you kitbash an existing Trek kit?

4MM, There are no kit parts in it what so ever. The warp nacelles and their bussard collectors are lathe turned clear acrylic. Most of the the rest is carved from 1/8th inch sheets of laminated styrene. The deflector dish started as a ping pong ball and there a a couple bits of styrene rod & tube stock. I also used a large plastic bead. The model you see is all resin(and a couple bits of brass) cast off from the original masters I produced for the kit.

I'm impressed at the creativity involved for this sort of thing.  Taking some thing and transforming it into something entirely different.

I'm alway impressed by the work of the CG artist.

I've been following your projects over on Hobby Talk(where I'm known as Simpson J. Cat) and your work is really inspiring. I plan on using your K-7 images as reference for my 1/1000 kit.

Yes, S.J.C., Hello.  If you've posted this ship over at HobbyTalk I must have missed it somehow.  Thanks for saying so.  And if you can find some good small details for your K-7 I'd love to see them, I'm running into a lack-of-ideas for that one.

Your K-7 needs little so I won't presume to give you any pointer on it.

What was that ship called you were working on, the one with the low slung nacelles?

That puppy screams to be kitted too. If you are interested in the construction of the Baton Rouge class, check out this link. http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=28164

Here is a link to a picture of the kits castings.

The final version will have clear red tinted impulse engine and bussard collectors.

I like how you made the deflector dish and those castings really turned out well.  Very well infact.

The ship you mention is the USS Cairo.  Perhaps when I'm done I'll scale it to 1/1000 and see if I can get one of the solid printing companies to make the needed parts.  I don't know a thing about mold making but you never know as I'd really like to see it done myself.

Of course the Cairo. That would make a great 1/1000 resin kit.

I think it is an Awesome looking Ship.  Think I can get a copy?  I like to do something interesting for a change.  Not that I need anything more in my collection! Can't move around now!

But I do think it is a great job and a great casting.
