Funny you should ask. I'll try not to make this sound like the opening of an AA meeting!!
My name is Doug and I'm a modeler!! (Sorry, couldn't help it!!) I live in Stamford CT, and am a member of two clubs: IPMS CT Yankee, and IPMS Stratford. I've served in every position on the E Board in the Stratford club, and have been selected to be Emperor of the North Pole for Life of CT Yankee. I'm currently Region 1 Coordinator for IPMS/USA (RC-1), as well as a National Judge.
My main building interests include, but are not limited to, and in no particular order, aircarft flown by the US Marine Corps and US Navy, Le Mans style race cars, and any Civil War subject especially ordnance and warships. And I'll build anything that catchs my eye, or pays money!! I've also been known to build ships, sci-fi, and figures. I've been building for about 25 years since getting back into the hobby. Not 25 years straight, but only as the schedule allows!! I enjoy the resaerch end of modeling, especially when it relates to Civil War subjects in particular.
In real life I manage three municipal marinas and related areas as Marine Supervisor for the City of Stamford (CT) Then I get to be Sextant of our church after my day with the City is done. Sextant is a weird name for building manager!!
I've been married to my wife Vita for 28 years, and have two children Melissa 28, and Jeb 24. Both live in Las Vegas, where our daughter works for a construction company as an IT specialist, and our son is a Master Chef working at the MGM hotel. Now that both kids are gone, life is good!!!
I served in the US Marine Corps 1972-1975, and worked in the Flight Equipment shops of a number of different squadrons at MCAS Cherry Point, Yuma, El Toro, Futinma, and Marble Mountain.
I think the most important thing to remember about modeling is that it's only a hobby, and we all shouldn't take it, or ourselves too seriously. That's my story, and damn it, I'm sticking to it!!
