Steamrunner Class
Permalink

I am building a Few models for a friend of mine, and here is one of them

The Steamrunner Class.

This kit is made by Starcrafts and is got a lot of nice detail.  By the picture below, I just gave it the first Sanding and washed her off with Comet Cleanser to get rid of any Release Agents it may have on it.

I already noticed that it has a few problems with a couple of spots were the resin didn’t settle into the mold right.  But they are minor.

I will post as I go.

Can we (well I) get a detailed step by step progression of the painting?

It doesn't look to be that hard at all.  The decal sheet that I have for it is from JT Graphics, and it pretty much takes care of the dark areas of the ship.  So I am going to do the base coat, and then the usual details, then add the decal sheet and thats it.

I will post as I go along.

It is good that the seams are easy to work with. I hate to putty/sand all the time on a model, to get it right.
It's a good looking ship, and I am always glad when the paint goes on.Looks really detailed. But to me, the decals always bring any model, to just like real.

This may look gray to you, but it actually was painted with an acrylic color of a Tan or off white.  Someone once told me that they colored their Steamrunner like that of the Enterprise “E”.  So this is closely to what I think may be the color.  It may look better when I get some paneling done, but right now, it is kind of bland.

Just took a look at this and the Akira. Pretty much inspired me to do them again on my own.

Great work!

Also, what's that white goo all over the models?

You mean the early pictures?  That is Apoxie White Putty.  I used that for filling in the seams.  I use either Apoxie Putty, Squadran white, or an new thing Doc showed me that you can put on with a brush.  That name escapes me right now, but Doc can tell you if he reads this, or if you are really interested, I will find out for you.

I read in a modeling book, about using liquid model cement in a bottle, put pieces of spree in the bottle, leave over night. Then the glue will disolve the plastic, and you brush it on to fill gaps. I tried it years ago, and it works good. Just another idea.

Never heard of that.  Sounds kinda neat.  What kind of Model Glue,  the old Red tubed Sniffing kind?

Testor liquid cement in a bottle with a brush in it. I don't know if they still make.

Probably just like Tenax.  Same thing I guess.

Never used the stuff, so I don't know. I don't have any hobby shops near by. Unless you call 95 miles one way close.

On your ship, did it come with good decals, or did you buy some? On a spaceship, decals really make it look real.

It does come with Decals, but I bought some aftermarket ones that have more to them then the kit.

Decals look good if you do them right.  If you make them look like paint, and you do not see any edges, then it DOES look as if it were painted on.  Its all in the application.
