Actually any non solvent degreaser or cleanser will work it's just a matter of time.
Oven cleaner, Castrol Super Clean, Westleys Bleche White, Pinesol, Mr Clean, Spic & Span, and Top Job are all viable solutions for dechroming plastic. Some take longer than others to work but all are effective.
I have heard folks using brake fluid but seems like that may lead to a problem disposing of the used brake fluid.

I use Bleche White, or Mr. Clean. Both are cleaners to start with, and don't really leave anything behind, like brake fluid will. Neither is harmful to dispose of, or as toxic as oven cleaner. Usually, I leave the parts soaking over-night, and use an old brush to scrub off any remaining chrome. Keep the cleanser in a glass container, and change it when it stops stripping the chrome as fast as it had done before.
