Permalink Closed

Ok, since no one has submitted anything, I will start out with these Pictures I have already.

And this winner will be up for the month of October. Next month, with submissions that are early enough, will be posted up in the last week of October and then that winner will be displayed for the month of November.... And so on...

First Model is From Hamy.  I think it is called a Rodman Gun, But hopefully he will give the full description below.

Second model up we have our Own Sponser, Doc’s USS Constitution.

Third, we have one of mine, my Walker Bulldog M41 Tank

And Forth is Celtics World Rally Car

Be sure to cast your vote for the one you like the most, and for those modelers, whose pieces are up, be sure to describe the piece, and anything you may have done to it.

Have Fun!

I'll start since I posted.

The M41 Tank was the first I ever did.  It was my attempt at armor.  It came out better than I thought it would, but I didn't add any aftermarket details.  it is all Out of the box.  Since this, I have only did one other armor kit, but that is for another Contest.

My "Big Gun", as Tom refers to it, is a 15" Rodman Heavy Artillery piece. It's based on the design for the Columbiad style gun. It was one of the largest fixed heavy guns of the Civil War.

I started with the 54 MM Verlinden gun kit, and added a few extras to the base such as the extra figure, ammo box, and barrels and pail of water. The hand spikes are turned from brass rod, and tapered as the origanals were. I also added block and tackels to the sandbag emplacement for added interest.

The hardest part of this kit was ensuring the chassis was constructed square and true. The chassis, is the iron frame that the gun carriage mounts on. I used a piece of dead flat steel as a platform for assembly. The remainder of the assembly was fairly straight forward, and typical of the Verlinden gun kits in this series.

The gun tube, carriage, and chassis were painted with Floquil Weathered Black, and the base was painted with acrylics. All weathering was done with artist oils and pastel chalk.

The base was detailed by adding a afore mentioned items, as well as railroad ballest for the gravel. The gravel was added to hide the seams in the base. Each piece was individually painted and weathered. The fit of the four base parts were terrible, and in addition to the gravel, I wound up pouring super glue into the seams to try and fill them.

Thanks in advance for casting your vote for my Rodman. I think the other guys have all done a great job on their kits, and think voting for this series of models will be very hard.

All are worthy entrants but the choice for me was between the Rodman and the M41.  Both are superbly painted (How DO you two manage such nice paint jobs?) but the M41 wins out due to my preference for more modern military hardware over that which is less so.

I have to say, Dougs surpasses me in Paint jobs for his Model.  The M-41 is a Basic green with a Wash done.  Nothing exciting.

My "Sailing Ship" is the USS Constitution. She is the Flagship of the US Navy. The kit is the 1959 Revell Release Out of the Box. I painted her with Tamiya Acrylics and used a metalizer for Calligraphy (one of my other hobbies) to simulate the copperplate. The Rigging took about a week of working two to three hours a night. There is no easy way to transport the old girl as she's nearly 3 feet long, so I don't show her much. The fragile nature of 46 year old plastic doesn't help the transportation issues.

The rally car is a Peugeot 206, from the World Rally Series.  It is a Tamiya kit, painted Rally White, and every marking on it is from a massive decal set.  It is probably the largest decal project I've ever done, and required lots of decal solvent, due to the multiple curves on the car.  The only items added were the antennae, and some mesh screens behind the vent areas.  Like most Tamiya kits, it was a fairly straight-forward build, and if you like rally racers, I'd recommend it.

Love all the entries but the Rodman wins out for me. Lots of great details and excellent paint job. Would love to see more pics of it.
