Per Tholian's advice, I am starting a new topic on new builds. What's your current or upcoming project? As of November 28th, I will be starting a kitbashed TOS era Destroyer from an 18 inch Ertl Enterprise kit. This will feature many of the lighting effects from the show and should be a nice follow up to the 22 inch version just completed. Check that out on my website, and do visit on the 28th for start-up pictures of this new project. This link will get you there:
Very nice stuff there. The 22" TOS-E turned out extremely well.
I've got a Trek scratchbuild that I should have started already but hope to start next week. I'll keep the subject underwraps right this second but rest assured when I have something to show I'll make a thread for it right here. In fact I'm considering giving up 3D work next year until such time as I make some progress on one or two physical builds I've got planned. We'll see.
I was just sent a nifty little animated film clip of figures standing outside the Enterprise inside a "Tholian" web sort of grid. It had some cool music and just kind of went to different perspectives with the green outlines of scaled human figures standing at various points on different external stuctures. It was made by "Four Mad Men" is this your 3D work? If so it was very nice, I saved the clip in my "keepers" file.
Neither, carved it out of some odds and ends. There is no Shuttle for this kit as far as I know. They might be available as an after-market part somewhere, but not this one. It's not really a "Galileo" type shuttle, just a fanciful notion. It's pretty darned small, about 5mm long. The Shuttle Bay is scratch-built as well. Glad you liked it!
I will see what I can do when I build mine. I bought 1/1000 TOS shuttles and shuttle bay, for the Polar Light kit. They looks real good.
I am a TOS ST hardware fan. I like the ships, inside and out, and the equipment.
I hope with the 40th anniversary of TOS, that a 1/350 1701 will be released, but I won't hold my breath. The 22 inch is the biggest that I can afford, so it is it.
The 22 inch is plenty big, an impressive display! I already have a heck of a job in shipping it. The 1/350th is even tougher to ship. That one requires a wooden crate, or a "prop box". I think if you can overcome some of the real bad fit problems in the 22 inch, and I strongly suggest you order DLM's after market kit for accuracy, you will be happy with the results.
I took your advice, and ordered the parts for the 22 inch, from DLM today. Like you said about making it look like the series. I trust your advice, becaue of your experence.
I went to your site to see what you are doing. I saw the prep on the destroyer. Unusual idea for the hangar bay. Never seen anyone come up with it that way. I will have to see how you do it. I did not plan it, but I am listening to music from TOS, while posting, nice touch!
I went to Hobby Lobby today in search of the Polar Lights Enterprise and didn't find one. I've got a bad hankerin for my first Enterprise and I want it to be the TOS one. I did see two of the Polar Lights Klingon Battlecruisers there and and bunch of that lil ship from nemisis I think it was called a scorpion, didn't pay much attention to it because I'm in a TOS mindset atm. They've got a 40% off coupon this week and chances are 97.623% that I'll return tomorrow and buy at least one if not both of the Klingon Battlecruisers just because it's such a good deal.
