I have painted many saucers, but the ring scares me. I mean, that I don't want to mess up a good paint job. Your's goes around the whole saucer, but I have seen some that goes about two-thirds around. It all depends on the modeler. I will have to try some day.

its pretty easy but time consuming. i painted the ship krylon grey then i cut the mask from painters tape useing stencels. i applyed the mask and then i misted a very thin layer of white over the ship. then i just removed the mask. and for wethering what better way to add scorching to the hull than to scorch the hull

Sounds easy. I will have to do it.

On your base, is it finished? I think, if you could come up with a patch design, and put it on , it would look unique. The link below, is what I did for my first models, I build when I got back into modeling. The name plate is just a piece of styrene, with a decal I made.

no, the base isnt finished(supporting the model is good enough for me). as for the weathering i just used a burnt match. the bussard collectors are clear red with the inner dome being gold.
